This view of the South Saskatchewan River has elements of realism
with artistic license applied to allow for this particular view  of
the Broadway Bridge and the Bessborough Hotel.
The Broadway Bridge is one of Saskatoon's seven bridges that span the South Saskatchewan River.  It was built during the Great Depression as a "make work project" by the City in partnership with the federal and provincial governments.  Finished in just 11 months it opened on November 11, 1932.
The Broadway Bridge is 355 metres (1164) long.
It is Saskatoon's steepest bridge with it's four percent grade.
The Bessborough Hotel is decorated in the French Renaissance style
and is a central landmark of downtown Saskatoon.
It was built in 1930-31 by the Canadian National Railways but wasn't opened until Christmas of 1935 due to financial difficulties.

Purity and Innocence

The white daisy symbolizes purity, innocence and faithful love.   The name daisy is believed to have come from the Old English "daes eage" to describe the way it opens at dawn.  The daisy also brings to mind the child's game of "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not" (of french origin).  In Victorian times, a young maiden would pluck a daisy's petals one by one and sing, "He loves me, he loves me not," for each petal pulled.   The last petal plucked predicted the future of their love.  In "Purity and Innocence"  one can always find a "He loves me" or "She loves me" petal.  Young girls would also pick a handful of daisies with their eyes closed.  The number of blossoms in hand would predict the number of years remaining until marriage.  One can imagine that there would be a bit of choice in their "handful of daisies".

Seen on a Portuguese beach, this boat reminds us of stories of adventurous seafarers, beautiful beaches and the multitude of dolphins in the area.
