This painting features two white-crested laughing thrush and a young peony flower. The peony is a deciduous bush that produces large flowers in a variety of colors. In China, the peony is a symbol of high position and wealth. These thrush can be seen in Africa, India, Asia and the East Indies. In China, this "white head bird" is a symbol of longevity.
