Point Atkinson Lighthouse

Point Atkinson Lighthouse is a National Historic Site located in Lighthouse Park, across the Burrard Inlet from Vancouver, British Columbia.
 Point Atkinson was named by Captain George Vancouver in 1792 when he was exploring the Pacific Northwest in the ship Discovery.  
The first wooden lighthouse went into service in 1875.  
The present lighthouse was built in 1914 on granite boulders
jutting out into the Burrard Inlet.  It is now automated and still in use.
The Point Atkinson Lighthouse may be reached by
hiking the Valley Trail in Lighthouse Park.

Watch Hill Lighthouse Rhode Island

Watch Hill in Westerly, Rhode Island,
 has had a nautical beacon since 1745. 
The original wooden lighthouse was built in 1808. 
The granite lighthouse that can be seen behind
 the white buildings was opened in 1856  
and automated in 1986.

This painting celebrates a  summer view of the  Sylvan Lake Lighthouse,
 built to replace the original lighthouse which was demolished during the winter of 2012/2013.
  The original lighthouse stood for close to 25 years and served as an iconic landmark 
for the town of Sylvan Lake.  
This new lighthouse was built through 2015/2016.

Lighthouse on Cayuga Lake

Cayuga Lake is the longest of New York's eleven glacial Finger Lakes, 
and is the second largest in surface area and second largest in volume. 
There are three lighthouses on Cayuga Lake.
Myers Point Light is located in Myers Park in Lansing, 
ten miles north of Ithaca, New York.
This lighthouse was built primarily by volunteers in 1998 
with over 3000 bricks, 
each individually cut and donated.  A functional strobe light, 
with a range of 7-10 miles, was added in 2002.

Cape Spear

Cape Spear Lighthouse is located on the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland.  It is the most easterly point in Canada. It was first named "Cabo da Esperança" (Cape of Hope) by the Portuguese, later became "Cap d'Espoir" (Cape of Hope) by the French and finally "Cape Spear".

This painting celebrates a  winter view of the new Sylvan Lake Lighthouse,
 built to replace the original lighthouse which was demolished during the winter of 2012/2013.
  The original lighthouse stood for close to 25 years and served as an iconic landmark 
for the town of Sylvan Lake.  
The new lighthouse was built through 2015/2016 and as this painting is posted, 
the lighthouse is complete except for landscaping and a few final details.

Lime Kiln Lighthouse

The Lime Kiln Lighthouse is on San Juan Island which is the largest island of the archipelago of the San Juan Islands.  These islands  are found in the northwest corner of Washington State, U.S.A.  The lighthouse gets its name by the limekilns built nearby in the 1860s.  Beginning operations in 1914, it was the last major lighthouse established in Washington State.
